What Is Mediterranean Diet?

The Mediterranean Diet comes originates in Europe, in the Southern part of the Mediterranean region. It is therefore specific to countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy.

How It Works

This diet is considered to be a healthy one, following the lower heart diseases incidence in the Southern Mediterranean countries due to its lower saturated fat levels. It has also been associated with lower rates of dementia, certain forms of cancer, and with Parkinson’s disease and Type-2 diabetes prevention.


Mediterranean Diet Food List

While Mediterranean diet menu is mostly associated with olive oil and salads, but it is also rich in various fruits and vegetables, fish, pasta, grains, eggs. Red meat is very rarely eaten.

In principle there is a low amount of processed foods used. Natural whole foods are preferred, ideally from organic sources.

Wine is consumed in moderation during meals. For those not into alcohol, grape juice is believed to have similar benefits.
